About Actual
“At Actual we bring light to life. We create unique and beautiful luminaires for large spaces. All our products are designed and made by hand, in England, to order. They are all dynamic, mathematical structural luminaires made from advanced sustainable materials”
Made by hand, to order, in the UK. We love making what we design. It means we can constantly develop and refine our products, perfecting them into the very best they can be. We believe that kind of contant care is not possible if buying components or ready-made products from a supplier or third party. By making our luminaires ourselves we get closer to the materials, the processes and the joy of making. Our aim is to pass on that energy and quality to you. So when you invest in an Actual product you will share our passion for what we do. Image: Austin Ban
Kay Bjoesen’s Monkey from 1951 is a great example of a designer maximising the emotional possibilities of wood, placing the material at the heart of creative thinking. Charles and Ray Eames and Isamu Noguchi, Arne Jacobsen and many other notable mid-century designers celebrated the immense possibilities that timber offers. At Actual we are constantly exploring, creating and prototyping future products, and we cant help but to be inspired by the work of these master. Image: Thomas Krogh
We manufacture and assemble all Actual products here at our base in the UK. Apart from quality assurance it also means we can offer a bespoke option service if required. This is for customers who wish to invest in a one-off version of one of our luminaires or to fita particular environment or purpose. Size, finsih and material can allbe specified for particular projects. We can do this as one-offs or a series. So if you are an architect, interior designer or specifier, or indeed an individual with a particular vision, please visit the bespoke section of this site and get in touch to discuss your project. Image: All the timber we use at Actual is sourced from FSC certified suppliers and sustainable forests, where possible from the UK but also Europe. It means we are confident in our selection of the best quality, but also that our genuine commitment to the environment is a central part of our ethos. Benedikt Geyer

Of course as designers we are constantly looking for new materials and performance processes. For instance we offer carbon fibre as an option with a Ten30 luminaire, as it is lightweight, can be recycled, and has a distinct personality. Image: Igor Tadic
